Meet Our Founder and Program Director, Melissa Harris

Hi, I’m Melissa! I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a specialization in educational and school psychology. I received my training in the Orton Gillingham approach through the Orton Gillingham Academy (OGA). I received training in other structured literacy intervention strategies rooted in the science of reading and structured literacy. As part of my commitment to continued education, I am currently pursuing a Master’s of Education in literacy from Queen’s University. I am a literacy specialist dedicated to overseeing the Orton-Gillingham program for each of our students here. I personally design each lesson to ensure we meet each child’s unique learning needs and goals. I am a member of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) and the International Dyslexia Association of Ontario.

Wiley Reading Academy was founded to provide a friendly, supportive environment for all students to learn and grow using evidence-based practices. It is a joy to watch our students gain their confidence in reading and spelling with each lesson!

Wiley Reading Academy honors the memory of my late grandfather, Wylie Wile, who faced significant challenges in life due to his inability to read or write.

Meet Our Reading Tutors

Kimberley Chow

Hello, my name is Kimberley! I have a BA and MA in English Literature. I love the world of text and the ability to access the written word with ease has always been something I've taken for granted. Currently, I'm working on my PhD applications and working with the students at Wiley Reading Academy has taught me so much about the intricacies of the English language. My students are all unique from one another in how they learn and process language. That's why I prioritize clear and concise communication when conducting my lessons. Above all, I believe that patience and understanding is the most valuable asset one can have when it comes to working with children from all age groups
